I’ll start with the bad so we can end on a positive note!
The Bad
Our defensive backfield is not good at all. Against a good passing team we’re toast.
Once again we were outscored in the 4th quarter. This seems to be a theme this year. This time it was 12-0 for UNLV.
We allowed UNLV to score 32 points. Now UNLV is not a good team and they’ve been averaging something like 19 points per game.
We did not have that killer instinct to put a team away. Rather than going for the win, we’re trying not to lose.
The Good
Our running game looked great. Ganther made some great long and tough runs through some well blocked holes by the offensive line.
Johnson showed some improvement at QB. He actually “looked off” safeties and dumped the pass to a different receiver. I haven’t seen him do that much this year yet. Hopefully this is actual improvement and not just playing against a bad defense.
We scored 42 points.
We won on the road for the first time this year. Granted once again this was against a bad team, but this Ute team needs to learn what it is like to win on foreign soil. It is a good step.
