Utes fall at home to UNLV

We’ve always seemed to start out the season a little shaky, even in the “glory” years. But game by game the Utes have always IMPROVED. By the time the conference season arrives we’re usually much more crisp, disciplined, attentive, intense etc. As fans we always knew we could count on our team to get better and better as the season progressed.

But this season really scares me because I haven’t seen ANY improvement. In fact, it seems to me like the team is getting worse. (or is it that the other teams are improving and we’re standing pat?) The players are lazily making terrible passes for TO’s. The defense is practically nonexistant. There is no intensity.

We used to pride ourselves on how great our defense was. Now we don’t have one. We used to LEAD THE FRIGGING COUNTRY in free throw percentage. Now we barely get above 50%. No one is defending you on free throws folks.

I’m becoming a Giac doubter big time and so are most of my Ute fan friends. We know our talent level isn’t as high as we’d want, but we’re not seeing the intensity and improvement that should be happening. I believe that is mostly due to coaching. I hope I’m wrong.

Last nights game was about as low of a point as I’ve ever seen our BBall team in. For hell’s sake with 10:02 to go in the game PEOPLE WERE LEAVING. Is this a case of “it has to get worse to get better?” What about recruiting for the next year or two? It could get worse.

Fans leaving a 4 point game at 1:40

I was blown away when fans in my section started leaving the game at 1:40 to go and we were only down by 4 points. Why the hell do you come to the game in the first place? So you can leave early and beat the traffic?

As it turned out that last 1:40 was a nail-biter. Had we managed to pull off a victory or perhaps even make that last 3 and put it into overtime those lame fans who left would have been sorry.

I really never buy into the fan bashing and the stupid conversation about attendance, but this time I just couldn’t believe people leaving with 1:40 left. In basketball 1:40 is an eternity with fouls and time outs.

As far as the game goes I was amazed at how many poor descisions we made. Our passing stinks. Let’s just throw the ball away at the end of the game with lazy passes.

And I was really BLOWN away when there were 11 seconds to go. SDSU is up by 3 and trying to inbound the ball under their basket. We have no time outs and half our team has just wondered down to our own basket to presumably wait for SDSU to casually inbound the ball and run out the final 11 seconds. Giac was damn near at half court stomping his feet on the floor to get the attention of the players to run back to SDSU’s side to defend the inbound pass. That worked because SDSU had a 5 second call and we got one more chance to try and tie the game with a 3. But what the hell are they thinking? Pay attention to the game situation!

Utes lose 72-67.

two things I hate

I hate it when byu wins any game, even their women’s teams. I hate it when the Utes lose.

Both happened on the same court Saturday down in pussy town. The TDS team played decent in their home stadium and the Utes couldn’t overcome them despite shooting a great percentage for the game.

Travelling….

The TDS players got away with tons of traveling. It was looking like an NBA game where the players terminate their dribble, jump step then step twice moving each of their TWO plant feet. No calls. Now I’m not being a byu fan and whining about losing because of the refs, but it’s hard enough to beat a team on their home court when you get calls like that.

1-0 in conference play

scoreboard

The Utes put on a nice performance tonight. I had a hard time deciding to go to the game instead of watching the Rose Bowl with USC and Texas. Thank goodness for my DVR I watched both.

Nevill had a nice game with some good boards and Markson was on fire. I had doubts about this team, and I still do. But it’s nice to chalk up the first conference win.

High Point low point

Utah defeated High Point 80-44 Wednesday night. Unfortunately I was not able to attend because I’m suffering from what I believe to be a broken rib and it’s painful to even move.

This has not been a good year for basketball and the conference season has yet to start. I’m not sure about this team winning many games at all during the conference season.

It’s really a downer seeing this poor level of baskeball from my Utes. I haven’t seen this low level of play in close to 20 years.
